Dear Salem families,
I am excited to begin the school year as your principal. I began my teaching career in Burke County Public Schools in August of 2004 and began my administrative career in August of 2012.   Previously, I served as the principal at Ray Childers Elementary School and Heritage Middle School. Prior to my time at Heritage, I taught 8th-grade math and science at Liberty Middle School. I am an Appalachian State graduate along with a University of North Carolina at Greensboro Teaching Fellow graduate. As a Burke County native, my husband and I chose to raise our children, Greysen and Alana, in our beautiful county.

I am dedicated to serve and support the students and families of Burke County Public Schools. Salem Elementary School is committed to the task of teaching our students. We recognize that all students can learn and that as educators we must accept this challenge with enthusiasm and dedication. We cooperatively must make instructional decisions, try alternative methods, and capitalize on learning styles so that students will feel good about themselves, meet high, but realistic expectations, experience true success, and face life with a positive attitude. Salem Elementary is not only a place where children love to come but a place where children love learning.

To accomplish this mission, we will set high expectations for our students and each other, to work collaboratively with parents and the community. Our focus is to provide a rigorous environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers, inspired learners, and good citizens. This focus prepares our students to equip themselves with the skills to be successful in a global community.
